Let it shine

Read

“Jesus said to the crowd, ‘Would you bring in a lamp to put it under a tub or under the bed? Surely you will put it on the lamp-stand? For there is nothing hidden but it must be disclosed, nothing kept secret except to be brought to light. If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to this.’’”

mark 4:21-22

Reflect

What kind of person are you? Someone who needs a nudge to push themselves forward even when you know you are well equipped for the job ahead? Or are you confident in your abilities, eager to share your gifts and talents? Have you got a touch of ‘Imposter syndrome?’ Or perhaps you take great delight in seeing people’s gifts and encouraging them to use them. Whatever kind of person we are, we can be assured that each of us has gifts and something to offer. We all have light to shine. In Jesus we have the perfect assurance from God that he wants us to know him and to love him. In Christ, we see the face of God. He brings to light some of the things that we had been unable to see or hear about God before. Christ has come to us, and continues to be with us. His life can and does transform the life of the world. He illuminates the darkness, reveals the hidden secrets of God, and casts his light of love on us. Remember that story told of the child in Sunday School who, looking at the stained glass windows in church, described a saint as ‘Someone the light shines through.’ How can we let God’s light shine through us today?

Pray

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Light of the world, dispersing the darkness of sin, and illuminating our hearts and lives. May your light shine through us today, so that others may be drawn closer to your loving embrace. Amen.
