A holy exchange of love
We’re bombarded by adverts, and some of them become quite iconic. If you’re a child of the 80s, you may remember a certain TV advert for men’s electric shavers, where the person promoting the product says, “I liked it so much, I bought the company!” Ah, yes, surely it’s an amazing product, something worthy buying, because you’ve invested you’re money in the company, and here you are, on my TV telling us about your investment. Surely, we can trust you!
But what or who do we really trust and why? There are so many occasions when people can take advantage of others, pick on their vulnerabilities, manipulate them. How disappointing can it be when we trust someone only to be let down? There is deep hurt. Scars that last a lifetime.
“A blessing on the man who puts his trust in the Lord,” says Jeremiah. There is no deviousness in the Divine, no manipulation. God loves us, wants the best for us, and gives us the freedom to choose or reject him. God doesn’t groom us with gimmicks. He isn’t selling a product. The only thing he bombards us with is love. The only investment he wants from us is love. Surely, something worthy buying into. No money required. A holy exchange of love.
God our Father, I love you, I trust you, I need you. I pray this, simply, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
